Dear Ben & Family,
We have arrived back at home and although tomorrow it's back to work, the peaceful and rested feeling from our week at Walnut
Falls still remains with us!! We were the February 2002 winners of your "Free Weekend At Turnstone " contest and we hope that everyone that visits your website will take a moment to enter the contest just as we did!!
We had a wonderful time and are so glad that we decided to add the 5 additional nights to our free weekend to stay a total of 7 nights.
The drive through the valley to the cabins offers the most beautiful vistas of the mountains, rolling green fields, horses and wonderful old country farm houses!!
Thanks for providing us with all the comforts of home and as soon as we arrived we began to feel like Walnut Falls was our home away from home!! We fell asleep each night to the wonderful sound of the stream rushing past the cabin and awoke feeling rested and ready for another day of antique shopping and visiting all the wonderful shops in the Dillard and Clayton areas.
We fell in love with the original old log cabin that sits at the end of
the lane next to the last cabin. What a wonderful treasure it is and it set us to wondering what it must have been like for the original inhabitants living there years ago. On our next visit, we will be sure to bring some hiking boots so that we can hike up the trail a bit too!
We would like to thank you for drawing our name in your contest and we will surely be returning again in the near future!
Gary & Roseann (Jacksonville, FL)

Buster and I made it back to Dallas this afternoon after spending a long weekend at Walnut Falls. We had been wanting to visit that part of the country but who knows when we would have done so, due to everyday life getting in the way. Your surprising us in the FREE WEEKEND WINNERS drawing came at a good time and was just the little kick that we needed to make plans. Your website is great (which is the reason I requested info in the first place) so I wasn't surprised at how nice and unique the cabins are and how beautiful the area is. But what struck me most is how much work you all have put into joining with Mother Nature to create a peaceful, welcoming place for all who come. This was our first trip in years that did not involve seeing family or tending to business. We spent time walking in the woods around the cabins and in the surrounding area. A good sign of how comforting the cabins were is that after being away for a while during the day, one of us would decide that it was time to go 'home', meaning back to the cabin. Anyway, just felt I needed to say THANK YOU and let you know we hope to be back and will tell our friends about it. Buster & Elaine, (Texas)

Ben & Family
I have been wanting to email you and tell you how wonderful it was to spend our honeymoon in your cabin. The gift basket was extraordinary. I cannot believe that you went through all that trouble. We definitely plan on returning soon. It was so peaceful and beautiful. I have told all of our friends and family about the time we had and they all seemed pretty excited about the possibility of returning with us when we do. I hope that your email address stays the same so that we are able to get a hold of you so we can return. We were limited on the financial end-- we actually never even went out to eat. We cooked all our meals at the cabin. Ironically, though, it never bothered us. There was plenty of sights to see that didn't cost a thing. It was the most relaxing trip I have ever been on. I think that you and your wife have a wonderful thing going - please don't ever stop sharing. My only regret was that our chocolate lab Meeka could not join us - but I understand why. Still that will not deter us from returning. We also received our security deposit back - some people would have just kept it - thank you for being how you are. Once again, thank you for your hospitality and the warm welcome. Your Soon to be Returning Guests, Kevin and Kimberly (Ohio)

Dear Ben and family,
Just wanted to say "thank you" for our recent stay at Walnut Falls. The cabins are lovely, and we appreciated all the special touches. Moreover, I thank you especially for your willingness to throw your boots on the other evening and go out and help look for my son, Phil. We hated to disturb you, but thought there might be vehicle access up there. Apparently he didn't heed my warning to take only a short walk alone -- he was all the way up on the A.T. and beyond about a mile when he realized it was going to get dark very soon. He did heed his boy scout training and follow the creek sounds down the moutain, falling a few times and getting snow soaked along the way. He scared himself, as well as us, but I think he learned a lesson from this, and one that, thankfully, didn't come at too high a price. Next time he goes for a "short walk" I'll have his backpack so laden down with flashlights and emergency supplies that the weight of it alone will slow him down to the point where he can't make it that far -- or he'll have a buddy with him. :-) Pat (Florida)

What a great weekend! The cabin is beautiful! We just finished eating some grilled rainbow trout we caught at Andy's Trout Farm just down the road. The weather has been wonderful. This is such a beautiful area of the country, and in my opinion is better than any mountains out west! I love the age of the Appalachian mountains. We couldn't have asked for a better weekend. Our three year old daughter "Hannah" loved the creek, fishing at Andy's and the bear in the loft area. This is such a peaceful, quiet, secluded area. We will spread the word in Lexington. Once again, thanks for everything. We are definitely coming back next year! Brad, Sara & Hannah (Kentucky) **

Thank you for making a dream come true; an unforgettable honeymoon! If you ever want to enjoy beautiful beaches, visit our island; but definitely, if you want to enjoy the mountains, stay at Turnstone!!! Tranquility, fresh air, natural beauties, all in one place .... Turnstone Log Cabins. Thank you and God Bless "Gracias y Dios le Bendija"!! Wil & Brenda, (Puerto Rico)

We had a wonderful stay. The cabin was well equipped and the sun coming through the trees in the morning is beautiful. We enjoyed long walks and visits with the friendly neighbors. we spent time fishing at Black Rock Mountain Lake, gem mining, riding the Smoky Mountain Railway and rafting on the Nantahala River. The Foxfire Museum was interesting and the Foxfire movie you left in the cabin was much more meaningful after that. Everyone we met was friendly and happy to talk as long as we wanted. Regards, Art, Cindy & Devin (Florida)

Larry and I would like to thank you for our wonderful stay at "Sassafras Rock" cabin. We thoroughly enjoyed the five days we spent there relaxing in the North Carolina mountains. I am so glad that we had the opportunity to meet you, too. We are telling everyone we know about the great time we had. In fact, the post cards we sent from there were not purchased in a shop. No, they were 4x6 photos of "our cabin in the woods". I must make special mention of the unique (and fun!) decorating touches that you and your wife added which made the cabin so special. What fun people you two must be. We have been back at work now, but not a day goes by that we don't mention the great time we had this year on vacation there at Turnstone. I stood in the creek behind the cabin and took several good pictures so that we can remember the scene and that beautiful sound. We fished at Andy's Trout farm and even took in a day of white water rafting (a first for us). I wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our experience. With much appreciation, Larry and Kathy (Illinois)

Though we didn't meet, you've had a tremendous impact on our honeymoon. The basket was so thoughtful and appreciated and you get a 5-Star rating for immaculate and serene cabins! We were so impressed with the area and people that we purchased our retirement property. We'll be reminded of Turnstone monthly for years to come. We look forward to again being your guests ... and neighbors in the future. With much love and God's blessings. Greg & Amanda (Miss)

We are spending our 35th wedding anniversary in this beautiful spot. All the amenities you provide were more than we expected! We loved the sound of the stream and a warm fire in the evening. It's going to be hard to leave this place. We did a little hiking on the Appalachian Trail, saw some awesome scenery and beautiful waterfalls. Mostly, we loved the real peace and quite. We had friends from Tennessee stay with us the last night and they were very impressed. They requested some information about staying here and I will give you their address. Tom & Mary (Florida)

I want to thank you very much for the work that you and your wife did to make our 10 day vacation so memorable. We were looking for a rest from the everyday stress of work and everyday chores. We enjoyed the mountain setting with the creek running behind the cabin. The creek was especially comforting at night when we went to bed. The kids loved playing in the creek while the wife and I just sat rocking on the porch. I would get up early in the morning and greet the rising sun with a cup of coffee and a book. We spent the afternoons visiting the many tourist attractions that are so close by. We were amazed at how thoughtful you were with all the amenities that you supplied in the cabin. We will definitely come again! Best regards, Paul and Elizabeth (South Carolina)

Ben & Dianne: It was so nice meeting you and getting to know a little bit about y'all. We came up for the fall colors and the mountains but got so much more. Our two favorite times of the day were the mornings on the back porch listening to the creek and having that 2 or 3 cups of coffee. Evenings - the quiet on the front porch swing. We loved being so close to the creek and the cabin is beautiful. Thank you for a wonderful TRUE VACATION! P.S. We finally got up early enough to see the wild turkey flock. Al & Vickie (Alabama)

Thank you very much for letting us stay in your magnificent cabin for our honeymoon! It truly is a romantic paradise. We can not think of any place that would be more perfect than this for a honeymoon. We will truly miss having our morning coffee on the back porch while listening to the constant musical sound of the creek and nature's mountain creatures! This was an experience like no other for us and we hope to make it a yearly vacation spot. By the way, the decorative style in here, with all the little nick-knacks, is truly adorable and really make this cabin. We will never forget the great times and memories we had here. Thank you again, Denise and Shawn (Florida).

Thank you so very much for sharing your beautiful cabin with us. The quiet walks, fire lit evenings and peaceful mountains made our first week as husband and wife unforgettable. We enjoyed the Smoky Mountain Railway, Foxfire Museum, Cherokee Reservation and Casino and the awesome view from Black Rock Mountain. However, the most cherished memories will be those spent alone walking, talking and just being together. We are already planning to come back. Thanks again for the wonderful honeymoon memories! William & Patty (Pennsylvania)

Ben & Dianne: We have had the most wonderful weekend here in the cabin. Yesterday was very special because we got engaged at the top of Pickens' Nose Mountain, which D.J. spotted on your web site and in your photo album. We will always remember this place and your hospitality. When we return, and we will return, we will stay an entire week. When we get home, we'll tell all of our friends about this place and maybe you'll have some more "Yankees" visit. This cabin and town will always be very special to us. Stephanie & D.J. (Maryland)

Our family really enjoyed our stay at your cabin. It was home away from home, but without all the daily hassles and stress. The creek was very relaxing. My husband and I sat on the back porch and drank our coffee while our son jumped from rock to rock in the creek. We saw 10 wild turkeys and also, saw a gray fox! What a sight! This must be the most peaceful place on earth! Thanks for sharing this all with us. Stacie, Mark and Grant (Florida)

When we saw your cabins on the web, we thought it looked good, but when we pulled up and saw the snow and the large rocks and the little cabin ... it just blew us away! Inside we loved your personal touches and sense of humor. It was perfect for the two of us. The snow outside and the fire inside was exactly the escape we needed. The location is ideal for the day trips we took, Sky Valley, horseback riding in Clayton and Gatlinburg. We hope to return soon, maybe then we'll see the turkeys. James & Heather (Ga)

Ben: We've had a great two weeks here. The cabin's perfect. The fall colors of the trees and mountains are simply incredible. We gave those mountain trout a hard time and enjoyed fish for breakfast & dinner - fried, baked, poached - you name it!! We hiked all the way up to the Appalachian Trail - whew! The view from Pickens Nose mountain was breathtaking. We visited Foxfire museum and all those authentic cabins they have. The kitchen was great, we did a lot of cooking and baking. We're so used to being here - I can't believe we have to go back to our dreary black & white lives in Houston and Austin. It was a great experience being here for a couple of weeks. Maybe we'll visit next time in the spring! Thanks again. M & A (Tx)

Hi Ben, this is exactly what the doctor ordered! It was a long trip up from Naples - but worth every mile. The cabin is even better that the internet photos. We feel so relaxed and comfortable here, it will be so hard to leave. We woke up on Thanksgiving morning with a bunch of wild turkeys outside by the porch - so we decided to have ham for dinner instead. I guess they didn't know what day it was. We hiked up the mountain trail for about 3 hours this morning. Even 4 month old Cameron made the trip in his "baby-jogger" stroller. It was mother nature at her best. Fires every night, fresh apples, antiques galore, sleeping late, the sound of the creek, the incredible surroundings and the perfect little home away from home - Thanks Ben for making all this possible for us. We will be back! Patty, Tom, Justin & Cameron (Florida)

Hey, my name is Whitney and I'm 9 years old. The main thing about the cabin is the sleeping loft and the creek that runs behind it. I also like the Indian things that are in it. The trails in the woods are great! It was the best Thanksgiving ever! Whitney (Alabama)

Ben & Family. Thanks so much for creating a piece of Heaven right here on earth! Like so many have said before - the details, the clean well-built cabin and the beauty of the water and the mountains themselves make this place special and a place to come "home" to. We will be back! Bob & Deb (Maryland)

Wooww! Your great website still did not show how beautiful this cabin is. We were welcomed by the locals on the hill (wild turkeys). I was tempted to try my archery skills, but my wife only knows how to prepare frozen turkey. (Just kidding) It's the little things that make this cabin so special: chickens, the bird clock. the decorations, the oil lamp, the books and the noise of the creek. Our 4 1/2 year old son got to see real snow for the first time. We had snow flurries most of the day and were glad to get back to the cabin and spend the night around the fire place. A nice fire and a glass of wine from the State Line Package store gave us another wonderful evening to remember. Thanks a bunch. The DeWolfs (Florida/ Belgium)

Brian and I were married on Saturday, April 24th, exactly one year from the time we met. We spent our first week as a married couple here in your cabin. In only a few days ... countless memories .. watching Brian build me fires, helping him gather twigs, signing my new name for the first time at a local grocery store, the sound of the rushing creek and mountain rain, snuggling on the porch swing,. and planning our future together. We've had a wonderful time, even though he beat me at checkers! Looking forward to spending our anniversaries with you here at Turnstone. Jaime & Brian (OK)

As is true for most families, our normal schedule is very hectic. My son has lessons to be driven to & from, I teach high school and my husband has a very high-stress job as the engineering manager of a manufacturing company. As summer approached, we knew we wanted a vacation to get away from lines, traffic, noise, etc! Turnstone Log Cabins has truly exceeded our expectations. We have not found a cleaner place to stay since we lived in Europe. And the creek has been the #1 attraction of our vacation for our children and us. We took them to Santa Land, gem mining, etc., but my 5 year old begged for his last day to be spent at "home in the stream". You are truly blessed to be able to listen to the sound of the creek, sit on the porch and breath fresh air on a daily basis. We've had a wonderful experience and hope to come again when both boys can enjoy hiking the area trails. Ed, Valerie, Andreas, Aaron (NC)

Ben. The cabin was wonderful. You only get one honeymoon per lifetime & we were glad to spend it here in Sassafras Rock cabin. The week was full of relaxing, hiking on the trails, horseback riding, turkey watching (over 15) and so much more. The trip was enjoyable, for not only the cabin, but all the attention to the little things. This time had been too much for words. I would recommend this cabin to anyone! Thanks and God Bless. Robert & Janet (SC)

Before my new husband and I even knew each other - we had always dreamed about having our honeymoon in a cabin tucked away in the woods somewhere. Willy found your cabins on the internet and made the plans. Your cabin is more than we both could ever have imagined. It has been a blessing. I have enjoyed staying here more than I could have ever enjoyed staying in some expensive hotel! I have already recommended this cabin to my parents and will continue to do so to others. You've made our honeymoon dream come true and God bless you. Willy & Darlene  (Calif)

"Great cozy cabin"
Very clean, nicely furnished cabin, cozy and great for a couple or couple with 1 or 2 children. I was surprised at how clean the cabin was, no dust, no hair on bathroom floor, it is rare to find anyplace that is half this clean. The cabins are isolated from each other with an abundance of trees, the creek behind the cabin was very relaxing to hear. No cell phone service with AT&T, only one bar with Verizon, but the cabin has a land line and Wi-Fi if any of that is important to you. I enjoyed being away from others and having a peaceful place to stay, so this cabin was perfect. I would definitely stay here again. Stacy (FL)
